Women's History Month

For Immediate Release

In honor of Women’s History Month, Gonzalo Aida, president of the Virginia Young Democrats released this statement:

Richmond, Virginia – “This month, the Virginia Young Democrats and our nation celebrate Women’s History Month.

Each year, our nation pauses to remember all of the women, past and present, that have contributed to our nation’s greatness - pioneering politicians, policymakers, adventurers, scientists, industrialists, economists, teachers, caregivers and thinkers that have made America into the world’s wealthiest and most powerful nation.

As we reflect on their sacrifices and victories, we recommit ourselves to shattering the remaining glass ceilings that prevent women and our nation from achieving our greatest potential.

Most importantly, we must address pay inequality that continues to disadvantage women and their families, especially in communities of color. Equal pay for equal work is logical, fair and makes good economic sense.

This Women’s History Month, the Virginia Young Democrats challenge Congress to honor America’s women by ensuring a fair day’s pay for a fair day’s work.

It is now 2015; it is time for equal pay for equal work to become a reality for all Americans.”
