The Project Vote Smart National Internship

The Project Vote Smart National Internship Program provides a unique lesson in the study of American politics. Students from across the nation and around the world come to our high tech research center in the Montana Rockies for ten weeks to help American citizens educate themselves about elected officials and candidates. By providing this information in an easy and accessible manner, Project Vote Smart believes that citizens can better defend themselves from the political hype and misrepresentation characteristic of present day political campaigns.

A Rarer History

I recently had the great pleasure of being named Correspondent of the Day in the Richmond Times-Dispatch for a piece I submitted to the Editor on the nature of the Slave Trail in Richmond, Virginia. The piece itself, published in the May 3 paper, is an attempt to capture how a preservationist's point of view could (and should) align with the goals of advocates of black and slave history in Richmond, both of which are horribly underrepresented, although are getting more attention in exhibitions at the Library of Virginia and at the Virginia Historical Society.

Support Pell Grant Funding!

The Pell Grant financial aid program has allowed millions of moderate- to low-income young Americans attend college. Rep. Paul Ryan and the Republicans in Congress recently proposed a %5.7 billion cut to Pell Grant funding. This cut will have far-reaching, negative impacts on students who otherwise cannot afford the cost of higher education.

In response to this atrocious proposal, the Old Dominion University Young Democrats will launch a campaign tomorrow encouraging young Democrats to call Senators Warner and Webb. Encourage our senators to vote NO to any cuts of Pell Grant funding!
