Liberty University Grants Equal Status to Young Dems and College Republicans

A month of blood, sweat, and tears by Young Democrats at Liberty University and their allies led to victory yesterday. According to the Lynchburg News & Advance, all political groups on campus will be recognized as "unofficial" clubs. These clubs can use the school's name and facilities, but they cannot receive funding.

Should political groups endorse candidates which do not fit in with the university's "Christian mission," however, they will be barred from using Liberty's facilities to promote that candidate. These clubs will also not have faculty sponsors.

Primary Day

Happy Primary Day!

In positive Dem news... VAYD taking Charlottesville!

Charlottesville holds innumerable possibilities for VAYD! The city itself is incredibly blue, with all of city council Democratic. The local parties are very active and supportive of the University of Virginia Democrats. With tons of opportunities in Charlottesville, VAYD is excited to expand and to form new chapters in the region.

California Supreme Court upholds Proposition 8

In a disappointing turn of events, the California Supreme Court upheld Proposition 8, a referendum banning same-sex marriage. What's puzzling is that they allowed the already issued marriage licenses to remain valid. What message does this send the average citizen? It's alright to have a same-sex marriage license as long as you were quick about it?

Issues Facing Our Generation! (Transportation)

As young professionals and members of Virginia's growing work force, we depend heavily on a working transportation system. The problem is that all of the major transportation infrastructure systems in our Commonwealth have reached their chocking point. To add to that fact many of our roads and rail lines have reached and surpassed their chocking points years ago and Virginia's government has been unable to receive millions of dollars in well needed matching funds, from the federal government because we have been unable to raise the necessary funds for the match.
