As many of us are aware, Virginia has not been among the friendliest states for the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender community. With Governor Robert McDonnell and Attorney General Kenneth Cuccinelli at the helm of Virginia’s government, along with a conservative House of Delegates, Virginia has chosen to stay behind as our sister states have advanced equality among all of its citizens.

In a few days, the Virginia Young Democrats will depart from all around Virginia and take off for Chicago, Illinois to show our strength to other Young Democrats and help our former president, Jen Bissett, become the newest Vice-President on the Young Democrats of America Executive Board!

On behalf of the Virginia Young Democrats, I offer our sincere congratulations to President-Elect Barack Obama, Senator-Elect Mark Warner, and Congressmen-Elect Gerry Connolly, Glenn Nye, and Tom Perriello!

What an amazing victory for Virginia!

We could not have done this without your help, young people were engaged, motivated, and plugged-in; knocking on tens of thousands of doors and volunteering in droves to help secure change and to keep Virginia moving forward.

Congratulations to each of you who worked so incredibly hard the year.

Studies show that when a vote pledge is signed a young person is more likely to show up to vote. Collecting vote pledges is a simple way to engage in issue-based conversations and then get a commitment from your peers that they will vote for Democrats. Through this program we will quickly build a consistently reliable voting bloc of Young Democratic voters.

VAYD will officially kick off its Young Voter Revolution Campaign this Sunday, Sept 7 at 12:00 PM.  

Please join us at one of the two locations and meet other YDs in the area and help us turn Virginia Blue by getting record numbers of young people to the polls this year!
